Greetings fellow thermally conditioned sauna enthusiasts! I’ve had a busy quiet month here in Northern Minnesota. Busy in the sense that I’ve been working on a few major projects. Quiet in that I wake up each morning with the windows open at our island cabin and I hear only the sounds of birds chirping and an occasional motor boat passing in the distance.
Gratitude
With Julia on one side of the bed, and the lump of our cat at my feet, I say a prayer of gratitude before levitating my way to some Wim huffing to start my day.
Whatever your morning routine, I encourage you to find your own quiet space to allow gratitude to seep its way in.
Time keeps passing, of course. I turned 60 this month. My first sauna build is almost 30 years old. I founded SaunaTimes.com 15 years ago.
Looking back, I’ve tried hard to not get crossed up with the monetization of sauna. I’ve helped others who have come to me. A huge percent have been great, appreciative, good karma people. Are you one of those people? Probably yes!
A few of the things I am working on include compiling a new sauna book, supporting sauna research, helping a couple sauna businesses, and expanding my involvement with Sauna Aid. I hope you stay tuned so we can carry the warmth together.
Sauna Talk podcast: Jackie, Cedar Grove Saunas
Jackie runs Cedar Grove Sauna in Maine. She is just back from her six week sauna pilgrimage to four countries in Northern Europe, and you get to hear from her voice about her sauna travel experiences here.
Public Sauna of the month: Sisu + Löyly, Grand Marais, Minnesota
Speaking of sauna road trips, The SaunaTimes Public Sauna Map can guide you to experience many great saunas. Big thanks to Kevin for this months nomination and contribution. We pay a visit along the North Shore of Lake Superior and gaze from inside this gem of a sauna. Let’s meet Katie and learn more about her sauna installations here.
A lukewarm stone gathers no heat
As we look at our sauna stoves, is there such a thing as too much rock? Well, Rolling Stones fans may not think so, but Jeff Pyzyk brings forth some compelling reasoning. If you are the kind of person who thinks about lämpömassa and all its kinetic and potential goodness, click here to read more.
Friendships forged in fire
Back to gratitude, we hear from thermal soul buddy Keegan, who tells a beautiful story of how the shared feeling of sauna help to forge a lifetime of friendships. Can you relate? Click here for more.
Help Wanted
Are you or do you know of a grad student, researcher, or academic professional interested in sauna research? The Sauna Research Institute is seeking a Principal Investigator to help compile a “State of the Practice” report. More information here.
